The Importance of Institutional Wisdom
The United Methodist Church's polity, encapsulated in its Book of Discipline, serves as a historical reservoir of knowledge and ethics derived from generations of faithful members. This compilation of theology and governance isn’t just a manual; it’s a lifeline that informs our leadership and fortifies our mission. Like the drops that make up an ocean, each policy, each historical insight, serves to protect the vulnerable, advocate for justice, and promote meaningful ministry.
Big Changes Ahead: Regionalization of the Church
This year’s conference has marked significant milestones, particularly in the regionalization of the church, a move supported by five of eight enabling petitions. This reflects a collective aspiration for a more diverse and representative church, recognizing that our global membership must have their voices heard, even as some dissent regarding the current assembly’s legitimacy.
